Michael J. Fox and Gibson have teamed up to locate the iconic guitar Marty McFly strummed during the Enchantment Under the Sea dance in the classic film Back to the Future.
“We’re on a mission to find the guitar I played in Back to the Future,” Fox shared in a YouTube video rallying fans for the search. “It’s either lost in time or tucked away in someone’s garage.”
Gibson, the maker of the Cherry Red ES-345 guitar featured in the 1985 hit, issued a “wanted” poster asking: “Have You Seen This Guitar?”

Fox, joined by co-stars Lea Thompson (Lorraine Baines-McFly) and Christopher Lloyd (Emmett Brown), urged fans to submit tips via a dedicated website or hotline. Huey Lewis, whose music is synonymous with the film, also appeared in the video.
The hunt for the guitar will be chronicled in an upcoming Gibson documentary titled Lost to the Future.

“We’ve chased leads and rumors for years, but 40 years later, memories are hazy,” director Doc Crotzer told The Hollywood Reporter. “Without digital records or receipts from that era, we’re navigating conflicting stories and faded recollections.”
Gibson timed the search to mark the 40th anniversary of Back to the Future.
On a related note, Bob Gale, co-writer of the Robert Zemeckis-directed Back to the Future trilogy, recently dismissed any possibility of expanding the franchise.
Speculation about a Back to the Future TV series grew after the Cobra Kai creators, known for reviving The Karate Kid, floated the idea.
But Gale was firm: “There’s no future for the franchise.”
“I don’t know why they keep bringing it up!” he told People. “Do they think saying it enough will make it happen?”
“Every interview, it’s the same: ‘Bob, what about Back to the Future 4?’ Never. ‘A prequel?’ Never. ‘A spinoff?’ Never. It’s perfect as it is. As Bob Zemeckis said, ‘It’s perfect enough.’”
