Monster Hunter Wilds’ player count plummets and inches closer to MH World. Read on to learn more about MH Wilds’ decline in player count and the game’s first collaboration.
Monster Hunter Wilds’ Player Count Goes Way Down
From Over 1 Million to 40k
Monster Hunter Wilds (MH Wilds) has quickly become one of the most anticipated titles this year, setting records as Capcom’s fastest-selling game. However, after a highly successful launch, the game's player base appears to be declining steadily.
As noted by Monster Hunter content creator Zenny, MH Wilds' concurrent player numbers have dropped significantly since May, bringing it closer to its predecessor, Monster Hunter: World. According to SteamDB, MH Wilds recently recorded a 24-hour peak of 41,101 players—drawing near to MH World’s 26,479 concurrent players at the same stage in its lifecycle.
For context, during its third month on Steam, Monster Hunter: World maintained over 100,000 concurrent players, while MH Wilds currently sits around 40,000. Many fans point to the lack of substantial endgame content as a possible reason for the drop, even after the release of Title Update 1. With Title Update 2 expected this summer, there's hope that new monsters, events, and features will help reinvigorate the community.
MH Wilds x Street Fighter Collab Teased
A potential way to bring players back could be an upcoming collaboration with another major Capcom franchise—Street Fighter. On May 19, the official Monster Hunter Twitter (X) account posted an image featuring a paw mark styled in line with Street Fighter 6’s urban visuals.
While no official announcement has been made, many expect a collaboration given the two franchises’ shared history. In the past, Monster Hunter: World featured a crossover with Street Fighter that included Ryu and Sakura-inspired armor sets, paid DLC such as Hadoken and Shoryuken gestures, and a Chun-Li Handler costume.
This would be MH Wilds’ first-ever collaboration, and fans are eager to see how Capcom integrates Street Fighter elements into the open-world environment. The Monster Hunter series has a long history of exciting crossovers, including Devil May Cry and Sonic for MH4, Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem for MH Gen U, and Assassin’s Creed and Mega Man for MH World.
With several updates planned for the remainder of the year, there’s optimism that Monster Hunter Wilds will regain momentum and attract both returning and new players. MH Wilds is available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Stay tuned for more updates by checking out our latest article below!
