Nicolas Cage has issued a stark warning against the use of artificial intelligence in acting, asserting that actors who allow AI to influence their performances are heading towards "a dead end." He argues that AI, being incapable of reflecting the human condition, poses a significant threat to the integrity of artistic expression.

As reported by Variety, Cage, accepting his Best Actor award for Dream Scenario at the Saturn Awards, used his speech to condemn AI's encroachment on the art of acting. He emphasized the importance of human creativity and emotion in portraying the complexities of the human experience, a task he believes AI is fundamentally incapable of achieving. He stated that allowing AI to manipulate even a small aspect of a performance would ultimately lead to a complete erosion of artistic integrity, replacing genuine artistry with mere financial gain. He urged actors to resist this trend, safeguarding their authentic and honest expression from AI interference.

Cage's concerns are echoed by other actors, particularly within the voice acting community, where AI-generated voiceovers are becoming increasingly common, even in high-profile video games. Several voice actors, including Ned Luke (Grand Theft Auto 5) and Doug Cockle (The Witcher), have publicly voiced their opposition, citing concerns about job displacement and the unethical appropriation of their work.

The filmmaking community is also divided on the issue. While renowned director Tim Burton expressed his unease with AI-generated art, others like Zack Snyder advocate for its embrace within the industry. This divergence of opinion highlights the complex and evolving nature of AI's impact on the creative arts.
