Unlocking Chapter Select requires completing one of the game's true endings. This involves completing three playthroughs, making specific choices during the final confrontation of the third playthrough. While referred to as playthroughs, many consider each as a distinct chapter within the larger narrative.

After seeing the credits at the end of a playthrough, save your game. Loading that save file will initiate the next section, often featuring a different playable character. The final playthrough involves switching between multiple characters. Completing this final playthrough unlocks Chapter Select for that save file.

How Does Chapter Select Work In NieR: Automata

Access the Chapter Select menu in two ways:

• From the main menu of your save file when loading the game.
• From any access point within the game world.

This menu allows you to select any chapter to replay. Your progress, including weapons, level, and items, carries over. When loading a chapter, you can also choose your playable character, provided that character was involved in that specific chapter.

It's important to note that completed side quests cannot be repeated, regardless of the selected chapter. If you jump between chapters, remember to save at an access point.
