Nintendo has officially addressed the recent buzz surrounding a purported Nintendo Switch 2 mockup showcased by Genki, a well-known accessory brand. Read on to learn what the company had to say.
Nintendo Confirms Mockup Is Not Official
No Involvement with Genki's Alleged Switch 2 Hardware
In response to speculation sparked at CES 2025, Nintendo has clarified that the images and videos circulating of a so-called Nintendo Switch 2 console are not affiliated with the company. According to statements provided to both CNET Japan and Japanese news outlet Sankei Shimbun, the hardware displayed by Genki is unofficial and was not supplied or authorized by Nintendo in any way.
At this year’s CES 2025, Genki—a U.S.-based manufacturer known for producing accessories for gaming consoles and electronic devices—drew attention after unveiling what it claimed was a 3D-printed prototype of the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. The company reportedly even suggested during the event that it possessed an actual unit of the unreleased console, along with knowledge of its tentative release date.
Genki specializes in creating peripherals such as controllers, portable SSDs, charging devices, and other accessories for various platforms. On their website, they maintain a dedicated section showcasing concept-based accessories for the Nintendo Switch 2, complete with an animated render of the rumored console.
However, as of now, Nintendo has not released any official details about the next iteration of the Switch beyond confirming that the system will be backward compatible with current Switch titles and hardware. While the company has remained largely silent on specifics, it has indicated that a formal announcement regarding the Switch 2 is forthcoming. Until then, all third-party representations should be viewed with caution.
