Nintendo has officially announced the prices for upgrading two beloved Switch games to their Switch 2 Editions: Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree. However, fans might find the cost of these upgrades steep.
While upgrading The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom from their original Switch versions to the Switch 2 Edition costs $9.99 each, NintendoLife has reported that the upgrades for Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree are significantly more expensive, more than double the price of the Zelda titles.
The Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Edition of Breath of the Wild offers improved visuals and performance, achievements, and integration with the new "Zelda Notes" service available through the Nintendo Switch Online app. Owners of the original Switch version can access these enhancements by purchasing an "upgrade pack" for $10.
The Switch 2 Edition of Kirby and the Forgotten Land introduces new story content in the "Star-Crossed World". Meanwhile, Super Mario Party Jamboree's Switch 2 Edition includes a new feature called "Jamboree TV", which utilizes the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, Switch 2 microphone, and an optional USB-C camera. Both editions also boast upgraded resolutions up to 1440p in TV mode, improved frame rates, new mini-games, and enhanced online functionalities.
Although specific U.S. prices are yet to be listed on the American Nintendo eShop—potentially due to ongoing uncertainties related to President Trump's tariffs—the UK Nintendo eShop has listed the Kirby and the Forgotten Land upgrade pack at £16.99 / €19.99, which is more than double the £7.99 / €9.99 charged for upgrading either Zelda game. The Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV upgrade is priced similarly, suggesting a U.S. price of $19.99.
This $20 upgrade cost for both games aligns with the higher base price of their Switch 2 Editions, both set at $79.99, compared to their original Switch versions priced at $59.99 each. Here are the standalone prices for the Switch 2 Editions in the U.S.:
- Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World - $79.99
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $69.99
- Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV - $79.99
- The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $79.99
It's worth noting that the upgrade packs for Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are available at no extra cost for Nintendo Switch Online and Expansion Pack subscribers. Unfortunately, no such offer exists for those looking to upgrade Kirby and the Forgotten Land or Super Mario Party Jamboree.
Nintendo opened pre-orders for the Switch 2 on April 24, maintaining the price at $449.99. The high demand led to Nintendo issuing a warning to U.S. customers who pre-ordered through the My Nintendo Store, stating that release date delivery was not guaranteed.
