Nintendo Switch 2: Genki's CES Mockup Reveals Key Features
Genki, a prominent handheld gaming accessory developer, unveiled a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, revealing several key features. Based on a reportedly black-market acquired unit, the mockup accurately reflects the console's dimensions, showcasing a larger size compared to its predecessor, approaching the dimensions of Valve's Steam Deck.
Key features observed include magnetic Joy-Con controllers, a second USB-C port, and an intriguing new "C" button. Genki CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed the magnetic Joy-Con design in an interview with The Verge, explaining a release mechanism involving pins activated by large buttons on each Joy-Con. Despite the magnetic connection, Tsai assures users of secure Joy-Con attachment during gameplay.
Further details emerged regarding the integration of optical sensors within the Joy-Con's mounting channels, suggesting potential functionality as a mouse via an accessory. Leaked Switch 2 images appear to corroborate the presence of these sensors.
While larger than the original Switch, the new console remains slim enough to physically fit within the existing Switch dock. However, structural differences prevent compatibility. The purpose of the additional USB-C port and the "C" button remain currently unknown.
