Hideaki Nishino has been promoted to the sole CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), with his new position effective on April 1, 2025. This news comes from a press release released this evening, which also announced that Sony's CFO, Hiroki Totoki, is being elevated to the role of president and CEO of the entire Sony corporation. Totoki steps into the shoes of Kenichiro Yoshida, who has been at the helm since April 2018, following Kazuo Hirai. Additionally, Lin Tao, the current SVP of finance, corporate development, and strategy, will take on the role of CFO.
Just last year, it was announced that Nishino and Hermen Hulst would share leadership of SIE following the retirement of former CEO Jim Ryan. Hulst took charge of PlayStation Studios, while Nishino managed hardware and technology. With this latest development, Nishino will now oversee the entire SIE operation and lead the platform business group, whereas Hulst will continue to focus specifically on heading PlayStation Studios.
Nishino, who has been with Sony since 2000, previously held the position of SVP of the platform experience group. Commenting on his new role, Nishino stated, "I am truly honored to take the helm at Sony Interactive Entertainment. Technology and creativity are two of our biggest strengths as we continue to focus on developing experiences that deliver entertainment for everyone. We will continue to grow the PlayStation community in new ways, such as IP expansion, while also delivering the best in technology innovation. I want to thank Hermen for his expertise and leadership as he continues his role as CEO, Studio Business Group. I am deeply grateful for the PlayStation community and their continued support and I am very excited for what the future holds."
