The highly anticipated Nvidia RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 are set to launch on January 30th, but concerns regarding limited availability are already surfacing. Reports from various retailers and manufacturers suggest significant shortages are likely.

Potential buyers are already lining up, highlighting the intense demand for these coveted GPUs, despite their hefty price tags of $1,999 and $999 respectively. Manufacturer MSI attributes the initial scarcity to the Lunar New Year, anticipating stock levels to improve in February.

Retailers are echoing these concerns. Overclockers UK reports receiving only a handful of RTX 5090 units, and previously stated limited RTX 5080 stock. PowerGPU similarly predicts extremely low availability for the RTX 5090.

In response to the growing anxiety, Nvidia representative Tim@Nvidia issued a statement acknowledging the anticipated high demand and potential for stock-outs. The company assures customers that it and its partners are actively working to increase retail supply.

Despite Nvidia's statement, scalpers are already capitalizing on the situation, with inflated pre-sale listings appearing on platforms like eBay. One example shows an Asus ROG Astral RTX 5090 listed for a staggering $5,750 – a markup of 187% over the MSRP.

Adding to Nvidia's challenges, the company's share price experienced a significant drop (16.86%) following the announcement of the DeepSeek AI model, raising concerns about future datacenter GPU sales. This could potentially impact Nvidia's resource allocation in the coming weeks.
