Oscar Isaac Confirmed for Star Wars Celebration, Fueling Return Rumors

Author : Natalie Jun 16,2025

Star Wars Celebration 2025 is set to welcome a special guest—Oscar Isaac, beloved for his portrayal of Resistance hero Poe Dameron in the Sequel Trilogy. His official appearance at the event, confirmed via the Star Wars Celebration Instagram page, has ignited speculation about Poe’s potential return to a galaxy far, far away.

Scheduled to take place in Tokyo from April 18 to 20, this year's celebration may offer more than just nostalgia. With Daisy Ridley having teased her upcoming Rey-centric film during her appearance at Star Wars Celebration 2023, fans are eager to see if Isaac will follow suit with similar news.

The Sequel Trilogy concluded in 2019 with Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker, and since then, Oscar Isaac has been candid about his evolving relationship with the franchise. Initially hesitant to return to Star Wars after expressing disappointment with certain creative decisions, he later adopted a more neutral stance, telling Variety in 2022 that he had “no real feeling one way or another” and was therefore “open to anything.”

Isaac previously revealed in 2020 that he would only return to the franchise if he needed "another house or something," but his tone has softened over time. Notably, he criticized Disney for rejecting his idea of developing a romantic storyline between Poe and John Boyega’s Finn, stating that the "overlords were not ready for that." Boyega, too, expressed dissatisfaction following the trilogy’s conclusion but has also hinted at openness to future Star Wars roles.

With rumors swirling, many speculate that all three core heroes—Rey, Finn, and Poe—could reunite in the upcoming Rey film, which is expected to take place approximately 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker. In this new chapter, Rey will embark on a mission to rebuild the Jedi Order.

Daisy Ridley herself has voiced interest in seeing Finn return alongside Rey, and with Poe completing the original trio, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him back in action as well. While definitive answers may emerge during Star Wars Celebration 2025, fans could still face a long wait before any official casting or plot details are confirmed.

Adding to the anticipation is the fact that Disney has postponed several upcoming Star Wars films despite announcing more than a dozen projects. The Rey film, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, remains unconfirmed, though its earliest possible release date is currently slated for December 17, 2027.
