Obsidian Entertainment's CEO, Feargus Urquhart, recently provided a positive update on the development of The Outer Worlds 2. Despite navigating challenges including the COVID-19 pandemic and the studio's acquisition by Microsoft, Urquhart assures fans that the sequel is progressing well. He highlighted the dedication and experience of the development team, many of whom worked on the original title.
While the studio is currently heavily focused on their upcoming fantasy RPG, Avowed, Urquhart emphasized that The Outer Worlds 2 is "going really well" and that he's impressed with the team's progress. He candidly acknowledged a period of intense pressure where the studio juggled multiple projects, including Grounded and Pentiment, even briefly considering halting The Outer Worlds 2 development. However, the decision was made to continue development on all titles, a choice Urquhart now views as successful, given the positive reception of Grounded and Pentiment, and the promising progress on Avowed.
Urquhart acknowledged the lack of recent updates and the possibility of a release date shift, similar to the delay experienced with Avowed (now slated for 2025). Despite this, he expressed confidence in the team's ability to deliver high-quality games, stating that while initial timelines may not be met, both The Outer Worlds 2 and Avowed are on track for release on PC and Xbox Series S/X. While specifics on game content remain undisclosed, the positive tone suggests a continued commitment to delivering a compelling sequel to the popular spacefaring RPG.
