Palworld Addresses Possibility of Switch Port

Bad news for Switch gamers hoping to catch 'em all in Palworld: a Switch version is currently off the table. This early access survival game, featuring collectible creatures reminiscent of Pokémon, saw a surge in popularity upon its 2024 release but has since cooled. However, a major update could reignite interest.

The upcoming Sakurajima Update (June 27th) is the game's biggest since launch, adding a new island, Pals, bosses, a higher level cap, and dedicated Xbox servers. While this substantial update will likely attract returning players, it's currently exclusive to PC and Xbox.

Palworld is currently an Xbox console exclusive, with PlayStation plans in the works. But a Switch port? Unlikely. In an interview with Game File (via VGC), Pocketpair's Takuro Mizobe cited "technical reasons" – essentially, the Switch's hardware limitations. A future Nintendo console might be a different story.

The Switch 2 and Palworld's Uncertain Future on Nintendo Platforms

The upcoming Switch 2 boasts significant power improvements over its predecessor, potentially making Palworld viable. Considering the game runs on the nearly 11-year-old Xbox One, the Switch 2 should be capable. However, the game's thematic similarity to Nintendo's own Pokémon franchise could pose a significant hurdle to a Nintendo release.

While a Nintendo console release remains uncertain, portable play is possible. Palworld reportedly runs well on the Steam Deck, offering a handheld option for PC players. Rumors of an Xbox handheld further expand potential portable platforms, should those rumors prove true.
