Pirate Software Removed from World of Warcraft Guild: OnlyFangs Cracks Down on Cheating

Summary

  • World of Warcraft streamer Pirate Software was expelled from the OnlyFangs guild following a disastrous Dire Maul North run in Classic Hardcore mode that resulted in multiple deaths.
  • Pirate Software's refusal to accept responsibility for the deaths prompted Guild Master Sodapoppin to remove him.

Pirate Software's expulsion from the prominent World of Warcraft streaming guild, OnlyFangs, stems from a failed Dire Maul North run on the recently implemented Anniversary servers. The addition of Dire Maul to these servers, launched in November 2024, has already claimed several OnlyFangs Hardcore characters.

Prior to Blizzard's official launch of Classic Hardcore servers in August 2023 (which initially saw declining popularity until the Anniversary server boost), players self-regulated zero-death runs. The Anniversary servers revitalized World of Warcraft Classic, significantly impacting the population of the original Classic servers. Numerous Hardcore players have perished since the Anniversary servers' launch, while others have achieved level 60 under the stringent Hardcore rules. Sara and Snupy are among the latest casualties, and their deaths led to Pirate Software's banishment.

Social media posts and a Discord statement from Guild Master Sodapoppin confirm Pirate Software's removal. The statement cites widespread guild discomfort following the deaths of two members during the Dire Maul run. The incident involved the group pulling a boss before clearing a pack of Gordok ogres. When another player suggested a retreat to reset the encounter, Pirate Software abandoned the group during the escape, contributing to the deaths of Sara and Snupy. While typically OnlyFangs rules might have allowed him to remain, Pirate Software's subsequent actions solidified his expulsion. (A video documenting the event contains strong language.)

Why Pirate Software's Expulsion from OnlyFangs?

The primary criticism leveled against Pirate Software centers on his refusal to acknowledge responsibility for the deaths. A post-run review by Twitch streamer Sodapoppin highlighted Pirate Software's failure to utilize crowd control, specifically suggesting that a rank 1 Blizzard spell could have mitigated the threat without excessive mana expenditure. Further allegations, from members like Mizkif, suggest Pirate Software issued threats to fellow streamers following the incident. Pirate Software responded to his removal on Twitter, expressing dissatisfaction with the handling of the situation.

OnlyFangs has experienced significant membership turnover since its recreation on the Anniversary server Doomhowl, and some former members may form their own groups. With Blizzard's continued updates to World of Warcraft Classic, including Vanilla-accurate patches, further casualties within OnlyFangs are anticipated as new dungeons and raids are introduced.
