Next Pokemon Presents Event May Be Disappointing for Switch 2

Don't expect any Switch 2 Pokemon game announcements at the upcoming Pokemon Presents on February 27th. While leaks suggest an imminent Switch 2 reveal, Pokemon titles will reportedly remain exclusive to the original Switch for now. The February 27th presentation will likely focus on Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

Nintendo hasn't officially unveiled the Switch 2. While the company has confirmed its existence, backward compatibility with the original Switch, and account carryover, details remain scarce, primarily sourced from leaks. These leaks portray the Switch 2 as a more powerful, larger iteration of the original console.

While future Pokemon games are destined for the Switch 2, don't anticipate any related news during the next Pokemon Presents. Industry insider Jeff Grubb suggests the event will highlight Pokemon games developed for the original Switch, leveraging backward compatibility for Switch 2 play.

No Switch 2 Pokemon News Expected at Pokemon Presents

The upcoming Pokemon Presents will undoubtedly showcase updates on ongoing live-service titles like Pokemon GO and Pokemon Trading Card Game Live. Expect news on Pokemon Legends: Z-A, slated for release on the original Switch this year. Currently, only a teaser trailer showcasing Lumiose City, returning Pokemon, and Mega Evolutions has been released. Rumors, however, hint at another main series Pokemon game launching this year.

A potential new main series Pokemon game, distinct from Pokemon Legends: Z-A and Generation 10 titles, is rumored for release this year. Speculation points towards Pokemon Black and White remakes or a new Let's Go installment, both allegedly destined for the original Switch, not the Switch 2. If accurate, the first Switch 2-exclusive main series Pokemon games will likely be the Generation 10 titles.

The Pokemon franchise historically prioritizes established hardware with larger user bases. Recall that Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 launched on the original DS instead of the 3DS. History may repeat itself. However, until official confirmation, tune into the February 27th Pokemon Presents for definitive news.
