Pokemon GO's Fashion Week: Taken Over event introduces a highly anticipated feature: remote raid pass compatibility with Shadow Raids. This limited-time opportunity, running from January 15th, 12:00 a.m. to January 19th, 8:00 p.m. local time, allows trainers to participate in one-star, three-star, and five-star Shadow Raids remotely or in person.
This event presents a unique chance to catch Pokémon with superior Individual Values (IVs) in Shadow Raids. The convenience extends to the Shadow Ho-Oh Raid Day on January 19th (2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time), where remote participation is also enabled, boosting the odds of encountering a Shiny Shadow Ho-Oh and teaching it Sacred Fire. Additionally, Charged TMs can be used to remove Frustration from Shadow Pokémon.
While this functionality is temporary, the introduction of remote raid passes for Shadow Raids fulfills a significant player request since their 2023 debut. The temporary nature of this feature leaves the future of remote Shadow Raids uncertain, but it addresses previous criticisms regarding the in-person requirement for challenging raids, potentially hinting at a permanent implementation down the line. After the event, remote raid passes will no longer function in Shadow Raids.
