Pokémon Scarlet and Violet rank among the highest-selling Pokémon titles ever released.
According to industry reports curated by Serebii.net webmaster Joe Merrick and verified by Eurogamer, these latest entries have collectively surpassed 25 million units sold. This remarkable achievement positions them just behind the original Pokémon Red/Green/Blue games (31.4 million copies) released for Game Boy in 1996.
With 26,790,000 units sold, Scarlet/Violet narrowly overtakes Sword/Shield's record of 26,720,000 copies, securing second place in the franchise's sales rankings.
The classic titles Gold/Silver (23.7 million) and Diamond/Pearl (16.7 million) complete the top five best-selling Pokémon games.
Despite their commercial success, Scarlet/Violet initially received mixed reviews upon launch, earning some of the lowest scores ever for a mainline Pokémon title. Players widely reported technical glitches, performance issues, and various bugs throughout their gameplay experience.
In our IGN review of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, we rated the games 6/10, noting: "While the open-world approach represents an exciting evolution for the franchise, Scarlet and Violet's ambitious vision is undermined by numerous technical shortcomings that make these entries feel unfortunately unfinished."
The Pokémon universe continues expanding with Pokémon Legends: Z-A scheduled for release later this year. This new adventure will unfold in Lumiose City during an urban renewal initiative aimed at creating harmonious coexistence between humans and Pokémon. Recent developments include Nintendo issuing subpoenas to Discord following last October's extensive Pokémon Legends Z-A leak, known as the "TeraLeak," as the company seeks to identify the source of these unauthorized disclosures.
