ReFantazio: Potential for Franchise Success

Hashino, when discussing future projects, expressed interest in developing a game set during Japan's Sengoku period. He envisions this historical setting as ideal for a new Japanese role-playing game (JRPG), potentially drawing inspiration from the Basara series.

Currently, there are no concrete plans to create a Metaphor: ReFantazio sequel. However, Hashino emphasized his commitment to completing the current project. He revealed that the game was initially conceived as the third major JRPG series for Atlus, following Persona and Shin Megami Tensei, aiming to become a flagship title for the company.

While a direct sequel is unlikely, the team is already working on a new project. An anime adaptation of Metaphor: ReFantazio is also under consideration. The game itself has been a remarkable success for Atlus, achieving the highest concurrent player count for a platform launch to date, exceeding 85,961 players. This surpasses the concurrent player counts of Persona 5 Royal (35,474) and Persona 3 Reload (45,002). Metaphor: ReFantazio is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
