If you're aiming for the best ending in *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2*, completing certain tasks is crucial, and one of them is saving Sam. Knowing where to find Sam during the main quest "Reckoning" is essential for achieving perfection.
Rescuing Sam During "Reckoning"
As you near the end of the main quest line, you'll discover that Sam is being held captive at Praguer's Camp, captured by Brabant. Your mission to rescue him unfolds during "Reckoning." You won't be able to simply stroll into the camp and liberate him; instead, you'll need to choose between stealth and violence.
To move around the camp without raising alarms, you'll need a guard's outfit. You can obtain one by either killing a guard and stealing his uniform or by looting one from the numerous chests scattered throughout the camp. Once you have the outfit equipped, you can freely explore the camp in search of Sam.
When to Rescue Sam
After freeing Sam, it's not yet time to escape with him. He will inform you about von Aulitz, who is also in the camp. It's advisable to deal with von Aulitz first, then secure a horse, and finally return to Sam to get him out. Sam will be safe waiting in the barn, and this sequence makes the tasks more manageable since you'll need to carry him to the horse.
You'll find von Aulitz in the main part of the camp. Wearing the guard's outfit allows you to enter his room without any issues from the guards. Upon finding von Aulitz, who is already dying, he'll request a dignified death. Granting this wish is the most honorable choice, but you can also choose to kill him cruelly or leave him to die slowly. Interestingly, leaving him to die actually contributes to the best ending.
With von Aulitz dealt with, all that remains is to retrieve Sam and a horse. Return to the barn where you left Sam. If a guard questions your actions, simply tell him you're moving the body, which will dispel any suspicion. Head towards the camp gates, turn right, and follow the perimeter until you reach the stables.
