According to Variety, a reboot is nearing realization, with Sarah Michelle Gellar in discussions to return as the legendary vampire slayer, albeit in a recurring role. The new series will focus on a different Slayer, bringing fresh narratives while still connecting to the original through Gellar's character.
Adding to the excitement, Academy Award-winning director Chloé Zhao, acclaimed for her work on Nomadland and Eternals, is reportedly in talks to direct and executive produce this revival. The writing and showrunning duties will be handled by Nora Zuckerman and Lila Zuckerman. Notably, original series creator Joss Whedon will not be involved in this project, following past allegations of fostering a toxic work environment during the production of the original series and its spinoff, Angel.
