Silent Hill f The First In Konami's Horror Series to Get an 18+ Rating In Japan

Author : Evelyn Mar 19,2025

Silent Hill f marks a significant milestone in the franchise, becoming the first Silent Hill game to receive an 18+ rating (CERO:Z) in Japan. This contrasts with previous entries like Silent Hill, Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill 3, and Silent Hill: The Room, which all received a CERO:C rating (15+). Even the Silent Hill 2 Remake, while receiving a mature rating in the West, only achieved a CERO:C rating in Japan. The game also carries a Mature rating in the US and a PEGI 18 rating in Europe, as shown in the Japanese reveal trailer.

While still under development, and therefore subject to change, this rating highlights a shift in the series' content. The game, revealed during Konami's recent Silent Hill Transmission, is set in 1960s Japan and follows Shimizu Hinako, a teenager grappling with societal pressures. The narrative is penned by Ryukishi07, known for the When They Cry visual novel series.

The trailer showcased Hinako's distress, depicting her injured and bloodied in a ripped school uniform. While gameplay was limited, the trailer offered glimpses into the game's setting, monster designs, and a potentially unique "Otherworld" characterized by blood-red flowers. Currently, a release date for Silent Hill f remains unannounced, and no further updates were provided regarding No Code's Silent Hill Townfall.
