Fans of Hollow Knight can breathe a sigh of relief: Silksong is not only real but also actively in development, as confirmed by Team Cherry's Marketing and PR Manager, Matthew "Leth" Griffin. Dive into the latest updates and the ongoing speculations surrounding this eagerly awaited sequel!
This Is Not A Joke, Silksong Is Real
Confirmed By Team Cherry’s Griffin
In light of recent buzz sparked by a cake-themed social media post, Hollow Knight enthusiasts can now rest assured that Silksong is indeed in the works. Matthew "Leth" Griffin took to X (formerly Twitter) to directly address a fan's plea for reassurance, confirming that the game is "real, progressing and will release." This marks the first significant update from Team Cherry in over a year and a half, quelling rumors and providing much-needed confirmation to the community.
The speculation began when Hollow Knight co-creator William Pellen changed his profile picture to a cake, prompting fans to theorize about an upcoming Silksong announcement or an alternate reality game (ARG). These theories gained traction, leading YouTuber fireb0rn to seek clarification from Griffin. Unfortunately, the cake turned out to be a red herring, with fireb0rn tweeting, "Apologies to have misled everyone. The cake was a lie."
Silksong’s Six-Year-Long History
First announced in February 2019, Silksong was initially slated for release in early 2023. However, in May 2023, Team Cherry announced a delay, citing the game's expanding scope and their desire to enhance the gaming experience. Silksong promises to transport players to a new kingdom, introduce nearly 150 new enemies, and include a new difficulty mode, Silk Soul.
The recent update, though brief, has elicited mixed reactions. While some fans are grateful for the reassurance and encourage Team Cherry to take their time, others are growing impatient after nearly six years of anticipation, feeling that the updates provided are insufficient for such a highly anticipated title.
Hollow Knight: Silksong is set to launch on multiple platforms including PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. Players will follow Hornet, the protector of Hallownest, on her perilous journey through an unknown world to reach the kingdom's peak. Although no specific release window has been announced, fans are encouraged to stay tuned for further updates and announcements.
