Skate Expands Playtesting to Include Console Players

Skateboarding Returns: Console Playtesting for the New skate. Game Begins

Exciting news for console gamers! The highly anticipated skate., the latest installment in the popular skateboarding franchise, is now available for playtesting on Xbox and PlayStation consoles. While PC players have been enjoying test periods since mid-2022, this marks the first opportunity for Xbox and PlayStation users to experience a new Skate game in over 15 years – the last main entry being Skate 3 in 2010.

The skate. franchise, despite a dedicated fanbase, was seemingly put on indefinite hold by EA. However, persistent fan support, notably the ubiquitous #Skate4 hashtag, finally led to the creation of a dedicated development team and the announcement of a new game. Last fall, skate. was slated for early access in 2025, and this console playtest represents significant progress toward that goal.

Via the official skate. Twitter account, Xbox and PlayStation players can now participate in the playtest through the skate. Insider program (registration required). A recent video featuring developers offered a brief glimpse, confirming more Black hairstyle options and playfully addressing the initial "Fall 2024" playtest announcement. Specific gameplay details, such as the much-anticipated replay editor, remain under wraps for now.

EA has confirmed skate. will be a free-to-play, live-service game set in the fictional city of San Vansterdam. This city, still under development, draws inspiration from San Vanelona and Port Carverton, as well as real-world locations. While a map version leaked in 2023, significant changes are likely. Fans can either join the playtest or patiently await the game's wider release.

Other Skate Games to Enjoy in the Interim

While early access is planned for 2025, delays are always a possibility. Fortunately, several other skateboarding games are available to keep fans entertained until skate.'s official launch.
