On April 9, Sega took to Twitter (X) to reveal that Sonic Rumble will be available worldwide on May 8, 2025. Accompanying this announcement was a fresh trailer showcasing thrilling gameplay footage.Sonic Rumble marks the first multiplayer party game in the iconic Sonic series, allowing up to 32 players to compete across various levels and gameplay modes. Sega describes the game as, "Players control a character from the Sonic series as they navigate a toy world crafted by the nefarious Dr. Eggman, tackling challenging obstacle courses and hazardous arenas!"
Given its free-to-play model, there have been concerns about potential pay-to-win elements. However, Sonic Rumble Director Makoto Tase addressed these concerns during an interview with Automaton at the Tokyo Game Show 2024 in September 2024. He stated, "We’re aiming for a casual system that allows you to purchase what you want quickly for a small, fixed amount, rather than a gacha system that offers items with a certain probability."
Sonic Rumble Reaches Over 900k Pre-Registrations
Following the announcement of the release date, Sega disclosed that Sonic Rumble has surpassed 900,000 pre-registrations. As the game hits different pre-registration milestones, players will receive various in-game rewards to kickstart their adventure.
