Sony Pulled GTA 6 Parody Game Grand Taking Ages From the PlayStation Store — but It’s Now Cleared for Release on Steam

The creators of the controversial Grand Theft Auto 6 parody, Grand Taking Ages, are back in the game, this time securing a spot on Steam after Sony removed it from the PlayStation Store. This management simulator, according to its developers, satirizes the long-awaited release of Rockstar's GTA 6.

Initially, Grand Taking Ages VI (as it was then known) appeared on the PlayStation Store, complete with a May 2025 release date and AI-generated art. However, Sony swiftly pulled the game. Now, following significant revisions, it’s reappeared on Steam, having successfully navigated Valve's review process.

The changes are substantial. The "VI" has been dropped from the title, the logo and descriptions have been revamped for clearer differentiation from GTA 6, and the art, while still reminiscent of Rockstar's style, is subtly altered. While the game still utilizes AI-generated assets, including voiceovers (as disclosed on the Steam page, in accordance with Steam's AI guidelines), the overall presentation is significantly different.

The Steam page now boasts a new trailer and updated screenshots, all emphasizing the parody aspect. The game's description reads: "Coming Soon Since Forever! Start your game dev journey in mom's garage! Battle angry fans, dodge ruthless journalists, and perfect the art of 'creative' deadlines. Survive on pizza and energy drinks while building your dream studio into... a slightly better garage!"

Violarte, the developer, adopted a proactive approach with Valve, engaging them on the game's concept before submission. This preemptive strategy ensured alignment with Steam's guidelines. They cite similar parody projects, such as Grand Theft Hamlet, as precedent for the protection of such works.

Despite the Steam success, Violarte aims to return to the PlayStation Store, submitting a request to Sony highlighting the implemented changes and Valve's approval.

The incident raises questions about Sony's curation process, contrasting sharply with Steam's more open-door policy. Steam, along with other app stores, hosts a wide variety of content, increasingly incorporating AI-generated assets. Meanwhile, the actual GTA 6 is slated for release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in Fall 2025.
