The June 2025 State of Play showcase proved to be a monumental success for Sony, setting a new peak concurrent viewership record in the process.

Kicking off the summer reveal season with high energy, Sony delivered an exciting lineup of upcoming titles just in time for Summer Games Fest Week. The presentation offered exclusive looks at anticipated games such as 007 First Light, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, Romeo is a Dead Man, and Silent Hill f—each generating significant buzz among fans.

According to data from Streams Charts, this particular State of Play reached over 2.2 million live viewers simultaneously at its peak—an all-time high for the series. Based on their metrics, it now ranks as the third most-watched gaming or tech livestream of 2025 by concurrent viewership. Only two Nintendo Direct events surpassed it in popularity, with the highly anticipated Switch 2 reveal leading by a wide margin.

PlayAs noted by Push Square, this State of Play was not Sony’s most-viewed livestream overall. That distinction still belongs to the PS5 reveal event, which has amassed an impressive 44 million views to date. Other popular PlayStation presentations include the reveals for *Horizon Forbidden West* (15 million views) and *Horizon Forbidden Dawn* (10 million views). However, Tuesday’s broadcast remains the most successful State of Play episode ever in terms of real-time audience engagement.

The showcase leaned heavily on third-party partners, particularly Japanese studios, with major announcements coming from renowned developers like Capcom, Grasshopper Manufacture, Konami, ArtPlay, Square Enix, and Team Ninja. Interestingly, the event featured relatively few first-party PlayStation titles.

This year’s summer presentation also seemed tailored toward core gamers, with a noticeable emphasis on action-packed experiences. Many of the revealed titles appear poised for mature audiences, suggesting a strategic shift in tone compared to previous showcases.
