Splitgate 2: The Highly Anticipated Sequel Arrives in 2025
1047 Games, the creators of the hit multiplayer FPS Splitgate, have announced a sequel! Get ready for the Sol Splitgate League and a fresh take on portal-powered arena combat.
Launching in 2025
A Familiar Feeling, Reimagined
Revealed on July 18th with a cinematic trailer, Splitgate 2 aims for long-term success. CEO Ian Proulx stated their goal is to create a game that thrives for a decade or more. While inspired by classic arena shooters, the developers focused on building a robust and engaging gameplay loop to meet modern expectations. Marketing Head Hilary Goldstein highlighted a re-imagined portal system, designed to reward skilled players without making it mandatory for victory.
Built with Unreal Engine 5, Splitgate 2 will remain free-to-play and introduce a faction system. Expect familiar elements, but with a completely fresh look and feel. The game is slated for release in 2025 on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.
Splitgate, often described as "Halo meets Portal," is a PvP arena shooter where players utilize portals for strategic movement. The original game's success, fueled by a demo that garnered 600,000 downloads in a month, led to server upgrades to handle the massive player base. After a period in early access, the original Splitgate officially launched on September 15, 2022, with the developers announcing a pause on updates to focus on a truly revolutionary sequel.
New Factions, Maps, and More
The Sol Splitgate League trailer showcased three distinct factions, adding depth to gameplay. Each faction offers unique styles: Aeros for fast-paced dashes, Meridian for tactical time manipulation, and Sabrask for raw power. While details remain scarce, the developers confirmed Splitgate 2 is not a hero shooter.
Gameplay specifics will be unveiled at Gamescom 2024 (August 21-25). However, the trailer offers a glimpse of what's to come, showcasing actual maps, weapons, and the return of dual-wielding.
Dive Deeper into the Lore
Splitgate 2 will not feature a single-player campaign. For lore enthusiasts, a companion mobile app will offer comics, character cards, and even a faction quiz to determine your perfect fit.
