In Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl, players exploring The Zone will encounter various NPCs, leading to quests ranging from minor tasks to substantial side missions like "For Science!". This mission involves Skif meeting Yaryk Mongoose, who needs help activating a second measuring device atop a silo. While short, completing it rewards players with a Malachite pass, granting access to the STC Malachite facilities.
- Initiating the "For Science!" Quest:
To begin, find Yaryk Mongoose in the Central Elevator area of the Chemical Plant. Approaching this location triggers a radio call between Mongoose and Skif. Enter the Central Elevator, proceed left past the conveyor belts, climb the rusted stairs, vault the railing, and speak with Mongoose on the first floor. He'll explain the need to activate a second device on a nearby silo. Accepting his request starts the mission.
- Reaching the Silo's Summit:
Exit the room and ascend to the building's roof. Eliminate any rodents encountered. Enter a room with broken windows, climb out, and descend the external ladder to the silo walkways. Equip your bolt-action weapon to counter electro anomalies. Proceed left along the silo's top to activate the measuring device.
Activating the device attracts a group of Bloodsuckers. Players can choose to fight or evade them to reach Mongoose.
- Confronting Yaryk Mongoose:
Upon reaching Mongoose, he'll explain the experiment's unintended consequences. Players can choose to kill Mongoose for endangering Skif or accept the reward peacefully. Either choice has no significant long-term impact. The Malachite Pass is obtained either way (from Mongoose's corpse or as a reward). However, choosing the peaceful option also yields additional coupons. The pass allows access to the STC Malachite base, unless already accessible through the main storyline.
