Star Wars: Outlaws, developed by Ubisoft, was previously confirmed for release on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. However, during a recent panel at Star Wars Celebration in Japan, it was revealed that the game will not launch alongside the console when it hits shelves on June 5. Instead, players will have to wait until September 4 to dive into the open-world space adventure.
For those unfamiliar or coming in late, Star Wars: Outlaws is set in the galaxy far, far away between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. The story follows Kay Vess, a low-level criminal who finds herself caught in a dangerous game after being marked for death by a powerful cartel. Our reviewer gave the title a solid 7 out of 10, calling it "a fun intergalactic heist adventure with excellent exploration," though noting some drawbacks such as simplistic stealth mechanics, repetitive combat, and technical issues at launch.
Beyond reiterating the Nintendo Switch 2 release date, Ubisoft didn’t share much else about the console version. Still, the update allows us to confidently add [ttpp] to the official Switch 2 Games List. With uncertainty lingering around pre-order availability for American and Canadian gamers—thanks to Nintendo evaluating the impact of new tariffs under the Republican administration—any new information regarding titles for the system is a welcomed bit of clarity.
In other news from the event, Ubisoft also unveiled details about the second story expansion for Star Wars: Outlaws, titled A Pirate’s Fortune. In this DLC, Kay Vess teams up with the fan-favorite character Hondo Ohnaka to go head-to-head with Stinger Tash, the ruthless leader of the Rokana Raiders. Star Wars: Outlaws: A Pirate’s Fortune is scheduled to arrive on May 15, offering fans more content to enjoy while they count down to the Switch 2 release later this year.
