Starting Tips for Dragon Quest III: HD-2D Remake

For fans of classic JRPGs, Dragon Quest III: HD-2D Remake is a nostalgic trip back to the series' roots. However, its old-school difficulty requires strategic planning. Here's how to conquer Baramos:

Master the Personality Test

The initial personality quiz from "She Who Watches Over All" dictates your hero's stat growth. While you can alter this later with specific accessories, restarting for your ideal personality is simpler. For optimal stat boosts, choose the "Vamp" personality, available only to female heroes.

Customize Your Party

In Aliahan, bypass Patty's pre-set party. On the second floor of her establishment, create a custom team with classes Patty doesn't offer, allocate stats, and even influence personalities for superior party members. Crucially, always include a Priest for essential healing.

Secure the Boomerang and Thorn Whip

Early access to powerful weapons is vital due to high equipment costs. Locate the Boomerang (Dreamer's Tower, third floor chest) and the Thorn Whip (Aliahan well, requires two Mini Medals from Morgan Minimann). These weapons' multi-enemy attack capability makes them invaluable for your Hero and a strength-based character (Warrior or Martial Artist).

Command Your Party

Utilize the in-combat Tactics menu to switch your party's AI behavior to "Follow Orders." This crucial setting grants you direct control over your party members' actions, a significant advantage during intense battles.

Stock Up on Chimaera Wings

Early enemies can inflict devastating damage. Before unlocking the Zoom spell (around Hero level 8), keep Chimaera Wings handy for quick travel to previously visited locations, even within dungeons. At only 25 gold each, they're a worthwhile investment to prevent party wipes.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is available on PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
