"Super Mario Bros. Movie Influences Mario Kart 9 Character Redesign"

Author : Aria May 19,2025

Nintendo has unveiled the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2, and alongside it, the much-awaited Mario Kart 9. Fans were quick to notice a significant redesign of one character in particular, inspired by the aesthetics of The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

The trailer showcased over a dozen characters, most of which looked as fans would expect. However, Donkey Kong's appearance caught everyone's attention due to its noticeable differences. For years, even decades, Donkey Kong has maintained the same design across various games like Mario Kart 8, Mario Tennis, and Donkey Kong Country Returns. The success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie introduced a new look for the character, and Nintendo seems to be integrating this refreshed design into its upcoming titles.

A more detailed comparison will likely be available in April during the Nintendo Switch 2 Nintendo Direct. This event will provide further insights into the new console and its features.

The console reveal trailer offered a few hints about the Nintendo Switch 2, focusing primarily on its appearance. It confirmed that the hardware is mostly backwards compatible, and the Joy-Cons now feature a mysterious new button. Additionally, a theory about using the controller as a mouse appears to be accurate.

While the Nintendo Switch 2 is slated for a 2025 release, it's unlikely to hit the market before June. This timeline aligns with numerous hands-on events scheduled worldwide, with registration for these events opening soon.
