Wuthering Waves’ Kuro Games Acquired by Tencent

Tencent, the Chinese tech giant, has significantly increased its investment in Kuro Games, the developer behind the popular titles Wuthering Waves and Punishing: Gray Raven. This move gives Tencent majority control of the company.

Tencent Now Holds Majority Stake

Tencent's Increased Stake in Kuro Games

Tencent's shareholding in Kuro Games has risen to approximately 51.4%, solidifying its position as the majority shareholder. This follows a previous investment in 2023 and the departure of other shareholders. Tencent is now the sole external investor in Kuro Games.

Maintaining Independence

Despite the significant investment, Kuro Games assures fans that it will maintain its operational independence. This model mirrors Tencent's approach with other successful game studios like Riot Games (League of Legends, Valorant) and Supercell (Clash of Clans, Brawl Stars). Kuro Games states that this acquisition will foster a more stable environment and support its long-term independent strategy. Tencent has not yet publicly commented on the acquisition.

Kuro Games' Success

Kuro Games has achieved considerable success with both Punishing: Gray Raven and Wuthering Waves, each generating over $120 million USD in revenue. The company continues to support both games with regular updates, and Wuthering Waves has even earned a Players' Voice nomination at The Game Awards.
