Top 10 PlayStation 1 Classics Reimagined on Nintendo Switch

Author : Hunter Jan 07,2025

This concludes our retrospective look at retro game eShop selections! We're wrapping up, primarily due to a dwindling supply of retro consoles with diverse game libraries. However, we saved the best for last: the original PlayStation. Sony's debut console exceeded all expectations, boasting a legendary game library that continues to see re-releases today. While these titles may have challenged Nintendo's dominance years ago, they're now enjoyed across various platforms. Here are ten PlayStation classics (in no particular order):

Klonoa: The Door to Phantomile – Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series ($39.99)

Klonoa, a captivating 2.5D platformer, deserves more recognition than it received. Players control a charming, floppy-eared creature navigating a dream world to thwart a dangerous threat. It features vibrant graphics, fluid gameplay, memorable bosses, and a surprisingly impactful narrative. While the PlayStation 2 sequel is slightly less impressive, both titles are a must-have.

Final Fantasy VII ($15.99)

A monumental title, Final Fantasy VII introduced the JRPG genre to a wider Western audience, becoming Square Enix's greatest success and propelling the PlayStation to the top. While a remake exists, the original FFVII offers a unique experience with its distinct polygonal style. Its enduring popularity is undeniable.

Metal Gear Solid – Master Collection Version ($19.99)

Metal Gear Solid revitalized a dormant franchise, catapulting it to mainstream success. While later entries became increasingly eccentric, the original game stands out as a thrilling, action-packed adventure, less focused on philosophical themes and more reminiscent of a classic action series. The PlayStation 2 sequels are also available on the Switch.

G-Darius HD ($29.99)

G-Darius successfully transitioned Taito's classic shoot 'em up series to 3D. Despite the dated polygons, the game retains its charm with vibrant colors, engaging gameplay mechanics, and creative boss designs.

Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition ($19.99)

While it follows the hugely popular Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross stands on its own as a visually stunning RPG with a large, albeit sometimes underdeveloped, cast of characters. It also boasts one of the best video game soundtracks ever.

Mega Man X4 – Mega Man X Legacy Collection ($19.99)

From the Mega Man X series, Mega Man X4 stands out for its superior design and balance. The Legacy Collection offers a chance to experience this standout entry and others.

Tomba! Special Edition ($19.99)

A unique blend of platforming and adventure elements, Tomba! from the creator of Ghosts 'n Goblins, offers a deceptively challenging experience.

Grandia – Grandia HD Collection ($39.99)

Originally a SEGA Saturn title, the PlayStation version of Grandia formed the base for this HD release. Sharing DNA with Lunar, it's a bright, cheerful adventure with a satisfying combat system.

Tomb Raider – Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Starring Lara Croft ($29.99)

This collection features the first three Tomb Raider games, showcasing the series' evolution. The original game, however, remains a fan favorite for its focus on tomb raiding.

moon ($18.99)

A unique deconstruction of the RPG genre, moon offers an unconventional adventure with a distinct "punk" aesthetic. Its unconventional approach and message make it a memorable experience.
