Akupara Games and Tmesis Studio have recently launched their latest adventure game, Universe for Sale. Akupara Games has a history of releasing intriguing titles this year, including the The Darkside Detective series and Zoeti.
Is the Universe Really for Sale?
The setting for Universe for Sale is a space station orbiting Jupiter, enveloped in a bizarre bazaar atmosphere, with acid rain and an air of mystery. Here, intelligent orangutans work the docks while cultists engage in bizarre trades for enlightenment. The central plot revolves around Lila, a woman with the extraordinary ability to create universes with a simple gesture of her hand.
As the game begins, you assume the role of the Master, a skeletal figure and a member of the Cult of Detachment, landing in a mining colony's shantytown. The setting is both eerie and captivating as you navigate through the colony, encountering rickety tea shops and other curiosities, until you reach Honin’s Tea House, which belongs to Lila. Her enigmatic nature unfolds as you switch between her and the Master's perspectives throughout the game.
Playing as Lila involves a mini-game where you mix and match ingredients to craft visually stunning universes. On the other hand, as the Master, you delve into the philosophies of the Cult of Detachment and interact with the Church of Many Gods. The narrative deepens as you progress, prompting you to ponder the true nature of the unfolding events. The game world is populated with diverse characters, each with their own compelling stories, enriching the detailed environment waiting to be explored.
The Art Is Amazing
The art style of Universe for Sale is a standout feature, characterized by hand-drawn illustrations that give the game a dreamlike quality. From the rain-drenched alleyways to the vibrant universes created in the game, every scene is brimming with life and detail.
