Mastering Weapon and Armor Upgrades in Avowed: A Comprehensive Guide
Progressing through Avowed introduces increasingly challenging enemies. To maintain combat effectiveness, upgrading your gear is crucial. This guide details how to enhance weapons and armor in Avowed.
Upgrade Locations:
Weapon and armor upgrades are performed at Workbenches (pictured above). These are located at Party Camps, established near Adra Waystones scattered throughout the world. Setting up a Party Camp marks its location on your map with a tent icon, enabling fast travel. Each upgrade requires specific materials, varying by weapon/armor type and Quality. Most materials are readily available through exploration or crafting, although higher-quality upgrades demand rarer Adra.
Understanding Weapon and Armor Levels:
Avowed uses a dual-tiered system for gear power:
-
Quality: Represented by a numerical value, color rarity (Green, Blue, Purple, Red, Gold), and descriptive adjective. This directly correlates to enemy levels in the Living Lands. Using lower-quality gear against stronger enemies significantly reduces effectiveness.
-
Additional Upgrade Tiers (+0 to +3): Within each Quality level, three additional upgrade tiers exist. While less impactful than Quality increases, these still boost stats. Crucially, all three + levels must be maxed before upgrading to the next Quality.
Which Gear to Upgrade:
Beyond Quality and additional upgrade tiers, Avowed categorizes gear as either standard or Unique.
-
Standard Gear: Common loot or merchant purchases. These are generally not worth upgrading beyond a certain point.
-
Unique Gear: Named items obtained through quests, boss drops, or rare merchant sales. These possess superior stats, perks, and can reach Legendary Quality (unlike standard gear, which maxes at Superb).
Prioritize upgrading Unique weapons and armor, using standard gear as temporary replacements. Sell or dismantle standard gear for resources to fund Unique gear upgrades.
In summary, strategic weapon and armor upgrades are key to success in Avowed. Focus on enhancing Unique gear to its full potential, utilizing standard gear as a means to that end.
Avowed is currently available on PC and Xbox.
