Pokémon GO consistently delivers exciting monthly events, including Max Mondays, Community Days, and the weekly Spotlight Hours, each featuring a specific Pokémon with a chance to snag a Shiny. Here's the lowdown on the upcoming event.
Voltorb & Hisuian Voltorb Spotlight Hour
This week's Spotlight Hour, featuring both Voltorb and Hisuian Voltorb, runs from 6 PM to 7 PM Local Time on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. Prepare for a double dose of Shiny hunting! Both Pokémon offer significant combat advantages, especially when extra damage is needed.
Given the two Pokémon, load up on Poké Balls, Berries, and Incense. You'll be catching double the usual amount! These items boost your chances of catching Shiny Pokémon and powering them up. Also, clear some space in your Pokémon storage – you'll be catching a lot!
Voltorb (#100 in the Pokédex), a Kanto region Pokémon, is tradable and transferable to Pokémon Home. Catching one yields 3 Candies and 100 Stardust. It evolves into Electrode using 50 Candies. With a max CP of 1141, 109 Attack, and 111 Defense, Voltorb packs a punch.
As an Electric-type Pokémon, Voltorb takes increased damage from Ground-type moves (160% Damage) and reduced damage from Electric, Flying, and Steel types (63% Damage). The optimal moveset is Spark (Electric) and Discharge (Electric), delivering 5.81 DPS and 40.62 TDO. Rainy weather boosts its attack power. A blue Shiny variant exists.
Hisuian Voltorb, also #100 in the Pokédex, shares Voltorb's family and stats (1141 CP, 111 Defense, 109 Attack), Kanto origin, and tradability/transferability to Pokémon Home. It also evolves into Hisuian Electrode with 50 Candies, rewarding 3 Candies and 100 Stardust per catch.
The key difference lies in its type matchups. Hisuian Voltorb takes increased damage from Bug, Fire, Ice, and Poison types (160% Damage), while Grass, Steel, and Water types deal reduced damage (63%), along with a significant reduction against other Electric types (39% Damage). Its best moveset is Tackle (Normal) and Thunderbolt (Electric), resulting in 5.39 DPS and 37.60 TDO. Partly Cloudy and Rainy weather enhance its damage output. Its Shiny form features a black body instead of orange.
