Witcher 4: Release Date, Story, and Gameplay Revealed

The Witcher saga continues! Nearly a decade after the critically acclaimed Witcher 3 captivated players worldwide, the first trailer for The Witcher 4 has dropped, introducing Ciri as the new protagonist.

As fans will recall, Ciri is Geralt's adopted daughter. With Geralt's trilogy concluding, the spotlight shifts to the next generation. The teaser depicts Ciri intervening in a village gripped by a superstitious ritual, where a young woman is to be sacrificed to a monster. Ciri's intervention reveals a far more complex and sinister situation than initially apparent.

While no official release date exists, considering the development times of Witcher 3 (3.5-4 years) and Cyberpunk 2077, and the early stage of Witcher 4's production, a 3-4 year wait is a reasonable expectation.

Platform announcements are pending, but given the projected timeline, a current-gen-only release (PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC) seems likely. While a Switch port like Witcher 3 achieved was impressive, it's less probable this time, though a potential Switch 2 release remains a possibility.

Gameplay details remain scarce, but CD Projekt Red's likely commitment to the franchise's core mechanics suggests familiar elements. The CGI trailer hints at returning features like potions, Signs, and combat. A notable potential addition is Ciri's chain, used for both trapping monsters and channeling magic.

Adding to the anticipation, Doug Cockle (Geralt's voice actor) confirmed Geralt's presence in the game, albeit in a supporting rather than central role. His voiceover in the teaser fuels speculation of a mentor-like function.
