Nintendo has confirmed that the Switch 2 version of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will indeed support cloud saves, putting to rest any concerns that arose from an earlier disclaimer. We already knew that the Nintendo Switch 2 would feature enhanced versions of several Switch 1 games, including The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. However, as IGN reported last week, a disclaimer on the game's page had sparked worries about the absence of cloud save functionality.
Initially, Nintendo's pages for the Switch 2 edition of Tears of the Kingdom included a disclaimer stating: "Please note: this software does not support the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership’s Save Data Cloud backup feature." This message led to confusion and concern among fans.
However, Nintendo has since updated its website with new information. While the page for Donkey Kong Bananza has removed all references to cloud saves, the disclaimer for Tears of the Kingdom has been revised to read: "Save data created in the second save data slot in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition cannot be transferred to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on Nintendo Switch."This updated disclaimer should reassure Switch 2 owners. It indicates that players will be able to transfer their old Switch 1 Tears of the Kingdom saves to their new Switch 2 devices, but transferring Switch 2 saves back to the original system will not be possible (thanks, Eurogamer).
The page for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition now includes a similar message, suggesting that the same approach to save transfers will be applied.
Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 went live overnight, with the price set at $449.99 — and they sold out quickly, as expected. For more details, check out IGN's Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.
