Zomboid Windows Barricade Guide

Author : Nova Jan 22,2025

Securing your shelter in the zombie-infested world of Project Zomboid is crucial. While finding a safe haven is the first step, fortifying it against the undead hordes is a whole different ball game. This guide focuses on a fundamental defense: barricading windows.

How to Barricade Windows in Project Zomboid

To effectively board up your windows, you'll need specific materials: a wooden plank, a hammer, and four nails. Once gathered, simply right-click the target window. Your character will automatically begin securing the plank. Each window supports up to four planks for enhanced protection.

Resource locations are fairly intuitive. Hammers and nails are typically found in toolboxes, garages, sheds, and closets. Wooden planks are commonly located at construction sites, or you can salvage them by dismantling wooden furniture (shelves, chairs, etc.). Administrators can utilize the "/additem" command to spawn items as needed.

Barricaded windows significantly hinder zombie entry attempts. The more planks used, the greater the delay before a breach. To remove planks, right-click the boards and select "Remove." Note that you'll require a claw hammer or crowbar to do so.

Larger furniture items (bookshelves, refrigerators) are unfortunately ineffective as barricades; both zombies and players will pass right through them. While not useful for defense, knowing how to move furniture remains a valuable skill for interior design purposes.

For more robust defenses, consider metal bars or sheets, but this requires sufficient Metalworking skill.
