AMD unveiled an early glimpse of AFMF 2, the next generation of its frame generation technology, on the previous day. This updated version offers significant advancements, including a latency reduction of up to 28% and customizable modes for different resolutions, tailored to optimize performance on your gaming setup. AFMF 2 features new optimizations and adjustable settings for frame generation, which significantly boost frame rates and enhance the smoothness of gameplay.

AMD states that AFMF 2 leverages AI algorithms to improve image quality while simultaneously lowering latency and enhancing overall performance. Feedback from a select group of gamers has been overwhelmingly positive, with AMD reporting an average rating of 9.3 out of 10 for image quality and smoothness based on their conducted poll. "These enhancements represent a major leap forward from AFMF 1," AMD remarked. "We're excited to release this as a technical preview, eager to incorporate your feedback to further refine AFMF 2."

The standout feature of AFMF 2 is its significant reduction in latency. AMD's tests demonstrated an average latency decrease of up to 28% compared to the previous version. For example, in Cyberpunk 2077 running at 4K resolution with ultra settings on an RX 7900 XTX, the latency improvements are particularly notable. AMD encourages gamers to experience these enhancements firsthand, stating that AFMF 2 "achieves an average latency reduction of 28% at 4K on the Ray Tracing: Ultra graphics preset compared to AFMF 1."

AMD has also broadened the compatibility and functionality of AFMF 2. This technology now supports borderless fullscreen modes when paired with AMD Radeon RX 7000 and Radeon 700M series graphics cards. Additionally, AFMF 2 is compatible with games utilizing Vulkan and OpenGL, potentially further enhancing animation smoothness. Furthermore, AMD has enabled AFMF 2 to work in conjunction with AMD Radeon Chill, allowing users to set a driver-controlled FPS cap for optimized performance.
