Final Fantasy VII Rebirth PC Version: Modding, DLC, and Enhancements Revealed
Director Naoki Hamaguchi recently shed light on the upcoming PC release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, addressing player inquiries about potential DLC and the modding community. Read on for details.
DLC Dependent on Player Demand
While the development team initially considered adding episodic DLC to the PC version, resource constraints have prioritized completing the final game in the trilogy. Hamaguchi stated, "We did have the desire to add an episodic story... However, given the limited amount of resources, ...finishing the final game is the team’s ‘highest priority’ right now." However, he left the door open, suggesting future DLC is possible if player demand is significant. "If we receive strong requests...we would like to consider them."
A Message to Modders
Hamaguchi also addressed the modding community, acknowledging the inevitable creation of user-generated content. While official mod support isn't included, he appealed for responsible modding practices: "We respect the creativity...though we ask modders not to create or install anything offensive or inappropriate."
The potential for creative player modifications, ranging from enhanced textures to entirely new features, is vast, mirroring the impact mods have had on other titles. However, Hamaguchi’s request underscores the need for responsible content creation within the community.
PC Version Improvements
The PC version boasts graphical upgrades, including improved lighting and higher-resolution textures, addressing previous concerns about character models. Hamaguchi also noted challenges in adapting the mini-games for PC controls, requiring significant adjustments to key configurations.
These enhancements, coupled with the potential for future player-driven content, promise a rich and enhanced experience for PC gamers. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth launches January 23, 2025, on Steam and the Epic Games Store.
