Final Fantasy XVI director, Naoki Yoshida (Yoshi-P), has politely requested fans to avoid creating or using "offensive or inappropriate" mods for the PC release.
Final Fantasy XVI's PC Launch: September 17th
Yoshi-P's Plea for Respectful Modding
In a recent interview with PC Gamer, Yoshi-P addressed the modding community, urging them to refrain from developing or installing mods deemed "offensive or inappropriate." While PC Gamer inquired about potentially humorous mods, Yoshi-P prioritized the avoidance of harmful content. He stated, "If we said 'It'd be great if someone made xyz,' it might come across as a request, so I'll avoid mentioning any specifics here! The only thing I will say is that we definitely don't want to say anything offensive or inappropriate, so please don't make or install anything like that."
Yoshi-P's experience with previous Final Fantasy titles likely exposed him to a range of mods, some falling into the "inappropriate" or "offensive" categories. Online modding communities like Nexusmods and Steam host a diverse collection of mods, from graphical enhancements to cosmetic crossovers (such as the Half-Life costume mod for FFXV). However, the existence of NSFW and other objectionable content necessitates this request for responsible modding. While Yoshi-P didn't specify examples, mods featuring explicit content, such as those offering "high-quality nude body mesh replacement" with "4K materials," clearly fall under this umbrella.
Final Fantasy XVI's PC release boasts a 240fps frame rate cap and advanced upscaling technologies. Yoshi-P's request simply aims to maintain a respectful environment for all players.
