While this remains a rumor, the situation appears concerning.

Upon its launch in 2022, MultiVersus enjoyed explosive success, reaching a peak of 153,000 concurrent players on Steam. However, the game's online presence plummeted by 99% shortly thereafter, prompting Warner Bros. Games to shut down the project in June 2023, reclassifying it as an "open beta test." Despite a return in May 2024 with updates, the game has struggled to recapture its initial popularity.

The fifth season of MultiVersus is set to begin in early February, and it may be the developers' final opportunity to rekindle player interest. Essentially, this season is a relaunch, though the developers have chosen to label the initial 2022 release as a "beta."
