ASTRA: Knights of Veda Bids Farewell to English Dubbing
Following a trend among gacha games, ASTRA: Knights of Veda will be removing its English voiceovers after maintenance on January 23, 2025. This decision, announced by developer FLINT, aims to enhance game stability and improve the quality of other language localizations.
The January 23rd maintenance will also remove support for German, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, and Italian. However, Korean, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, French, Thai, and Russian will remain. While English text will still be available, in-game voice acting will default to Japanese for players outside of Korea. FLINT assures players that this change won't affect in-game chat functionality in any of the removed languages.
This move follows similar decisions by other gacha game developers. Square Enix's War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, Yostar Games' Aether Gazer, and Amazing Seasun Games' Snowbreak: Containment Zone have all scaled back or eliminated English voiceovers, citing factors such as resource allocation and player language preferences.
The long-term cost of maintaining English voice acting across years of content updates is a significant factor. Prioritizing the language preferred by the majority of players allows developers to focus resources on improving gameplay, performance, and the addition of new content, ultimately contributing to the game's continued success.
While some fans may be disappointed, the developers' commitment to enhancing the overall game experience remains a priority.
