Activision confirms that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's Directed mode has significantly boosted main quest completion rates. While many Black Ops 6 Zombies players prioritize survival, Directed mode has successfully engaged a larger portion of the player base in the game's narrative.
The Call of Duty Zombies mode, introduced in World at War, has always featured a storyline that has grown increasingly complex over time. Despite a decline in the overall Black Ops 6 player base, the Zombies mode maintains a dedicated and substantial community. The core gameplay, a wave-based survival experience, often leads players to focus on upgrading weapons and defenses rather than the narrative. However, the Season 1 introduction of Directed mode has proven highly effective.
A recent blog post revealed that Directed mode doubled the main quest completion rate, from 4% to 8.23%. This data is based on a staggering 480 million hours of gameplay, with a small portion post-Directed mode launch (November 14th). Treyarch considers this a success, fulfilling their goal of increasing main quest participation. However, with over 90% of players still not completing the quest, further improvements are planned.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's Directed Mode: A Significant Improvement
Directed mode, part of Black Ops 6's Season 1 update (including three new maps and two game modes), provides structured guidance for players navigating the Zombies storyline. The complex narrative, involving interdimensional travel and other fantastical elements, can be challenging for newcomers. Unlike previous installments, Directed mode actively assists players in following the story.
The implementation of Directed mode has already resulted in a higher main quest completion rate than ever before. Treyarch's continued updates to Black Ops 6 and Directed mode promise further enhancements to these statistics in the future.
