CoD Black Ops 7 Developers Preparing for Next Generation Security
TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot Become Mandatory
Activision has confirmed that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will require TPM 2.0 (Trusted Platform Module) and Secure Boot technologies. The announcement was made through Call of Duty's official website on August 6 by Team Ricochet, the studio's anti-cheat division.
According to Activision's support documentation, TPM 2.0 provides "hardware-based security features for Windows PCs," while Secure Boot ensures "only verified software loads during system startup."
These security protocols mirror implementations in other competitive shooters like Battlefield 6 and Valorant, designed to prevent cheating exploits such as aimbots and wallhacks. This initiative represents a phased implementation strategy aligned with Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Season 05 and Warzone updates.
Team Ricochet clarified that while not immediately mandatory for current titles, these requirements will become essential for Black Ops 7. The statement emphasized: "These hardware-level protections are fundamental to our anti-cheat strategy, and we encourage all players to adopt them now." Configuration guides are available through Activision's Player Support resources.
Legacy Hardware Compatibility Concerns
When fully implemented for Black Ops 7, these security measures will exclude older PC configurations. The minimum requirements specify 8th Generation Intel processors or AMD Ryzen 2000-series (Zen+) chips and newer, as these platforms support the necessary security features.
Regarding performance concerns, Activision stated: "These security features only activate during system and game initialization, remaining dormant during active gameplay sessions."
The gaming community has shown measured acceptance of these requirements, particularly following positive experiences with similar implementations in Battlefield 6's open beta.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will release on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. Stay informed about the latest updates through our coverage.
