Spectre Divide Responds to Backlash with Immediate Price Adjustments on Skins

In a swift response to player feedback, Mountaintop Studios, the developers behind the newly launched online FPS game Spectre Divide, have announced a significant reduction in the prices of in-game skins and bundles. This decision was made just hours after the game's release, prompted by widespread criticism over the initially high costs. Game director Lee Horn revealed that the prices of weapons and character skins have been slashed by 17-25%, varying by item.

"We've heard your feedback and we're making changes," Mountaintop Studios stated. "Weapons & Outfits will be permanently decreasing in price by 17-25%. Players who purchased store items before the change will get a 30% SP [in-game currency] refund." This move was a direct response to the community's outcry, particularly regarding the high cost of bundles like the Cryo Kinesis Masterpiece, which was initially priced at around $85 (9,000 SP), a figure many felt was excessive for a free-to-play game.

Mountaintop Studios also confirmed that players who made purchases prior to the price drop would receive a 30% SP refund, rounded up to the nearest 100 SP. However, not all in-game purchases are affected; the prices of the Starter pack, Sponsors, and Endorsement upgrades will remain the same. "These packs will not have any adjustments. Anyone who purchased the Founder's pack / Supporter pack, and purchased the items above will get the extra SP added to their account as well," the studio clarified.

Spectre Divide Backlash Prompts Skin Prices to Lower Soon After Launch

The response from the Spectre Divide community has been mixed. While some players appreciate the studio's responsiveness, others feel the adjustments do not go far enough. At the time of writing, the game holds a 49% Negative rating on Steam, reflecting the ongoing backlash and negative review bombing due to the initial pricing of in-game items. On social platforms, reactions vary. One player on Twitter (X) noted, "Def not enough but it’s a start! And it’s great that you’re at least listening to players feedback." Another suggested, "I wish we could buy individual items from packs like hairstyles or accessories! You’d probably get more money from me tbh!"

Despite the price adjustments, skepticism persists among some fans. One expressed frustration over the timing, stating, "You needed to do that beforehand, not when people are upset about it and then you change it. If you keep on going in this direction then I don’t think this game will last any longer. Cause in future you will get heavy competition from other f2p games too."

Mountaintop Studios' quick action to address the pricing concerns of Spectre Divide reflects their commitment to listening to their player base. However, the mixed reactions indicate that the studio may need to continue engaging with the community and possibly make further adjustments to ensure the long-term success of their game.
