Dead by Daylight's Most-Wanted Killers: The Thing, Cujo

Five Nights at Freddy's is now joining Dead by Daylight, but developer Behaviour Interactive already has its sights set on more legendary horror figures to bring into the game.

The team behind the hit asymmetrical horror title shared their ambitions in a discussion with IGN. As expected, the studio is constantly considering which new Killers and Survivors to introduce. What might surprise you is that certain developers have very specific icons in mind.

I've been here for two and a half years, relentlessly pushing to find a way to integrate The Thing into Dead by Daylight.

Killer Designer and horror enthusiast Jason Guzzo has previously helped introduce infamous characters like Chucky, Dracula, and Springtrap into the Entity's realm. While every crossover is significant for Behaviour and its community, Guzzo admits that The Thing is the one franchise he would go to great lengths to include.

"To my knowledge, it's not currently under discussion at higher levels, but my dream—and likely my favorite horror film—is the obvious choice: The Thing," Guzzo stated. "I would be thrilled to bring The Thing into Dead by Daylight. For the past two and a half years, I've been on a mission to figure out how we can make that happen."

Guzzo clarifies that his passion for a The Thing Chapter isn't a hint of future content, and several challenges could prevent such a collaboration. He recognizes the "potential design hurdles" in adapting a complex mimic murderer into a playable video game character. Still, it remains the one property he is "determined to realize eventually."

Meanwhile, Dead by Daylight Creative Director Dave Richard notes that discussions about dream Killers are common within the Behaviour team. While he mentions Pennywise as a villain that would "be incredible," Richard's ambitions go even further.

"There are other masters of horror we'd love to feature," Richard explained. "You can probably guess most of them. Honestly, my goal is to bring them all into the game."

While many iconic monsters haven't yet appeared in Dead by Daylight, the team has also considered some less conventional candidates.

Honestly, I just want to collect them all.

"We often talk about other possibilities too," Richard added. "They might seem like jokes initially, but I believe there's a way to make them work, especially now: Cujo. Christine."

Cujo, of course, is the rabid dog from Stephen King's novel and its 1983 film adaptation. A canine Killer would be unusual for a game featuring mostly human characters like Ghost Face and Michael Myers, but it's not out of the question. Richard's mention of King's Christine suggests a killer car could join the roster if the team can overcome the technical challenges.

One thing is certain: Dead by Daylight shows no signs of slowing down as it approaches its ninth anniversary. The Five Nights at Freddy's Chapter launches on June 17, introducing Springtrap and a pizzeria map.
