Deltarune Chapter 4 Development Update: Almost Ready, But Not Quite
Toby Fox, creator of Undertale and Deltarune, recently shared an update on the highly anticipated Deltarune Chapters 3 and 4 in his newsletter. While Chapter 4 is nearing completion, a release date remains elusive.
Fox confirmed the simultaneous release of Chapters 3 and 4 on PC, Switch, and PS4, as previously announced. However, despite Chapter 4 being largely playable, polish and refinements are still needed. This includes minor cutscene improvements, battle balancing, visual enhancements, background additions, and refining ending sequences for several battles. Three friends have already played through the chapter and provided positive feedback.
The complexity of a multi-platform, multilingual release is a significant factor influencing the release timeline. Fox highlighted the increased effort required for a paid release compared to the free initial chapters.
Before launch, the team must complete several key tasks: testing new features, finalizing PC and console versions, Japanese localization, and rigorous bug testing.
Chapter 3 development is complete. Interestingly, while finishing Chapter 4, some team members have already begun preliminary work on Chapter 5, including map creation and attack pattern design.
Although a specific release date remains unannounced, Fox offered a sneak peek at some content, including Ralsei and Rouxls dialogue, Elnina’s character description, and a new item: GingerGuard. While the wait is longer than anticipated, Fox assures fans that Chapters 3 and 4 combined will surpass the length of Chapters 1 and 2. He also expressed confidence that future chapter releases will be more streamlined. The combined length of Chapters 3 and 4 will be significantly longer than the first two chapters.
