Battlefield Labs: Shaping the Future of Battlefield Through Community Collaboration
Battlefield Studios, in partnership with Electronic Arts (EA), has launched Battlefield Labs, a revolutionary platform designed to foster collaboration between players and developers in shaping the future of the Battlefield franchise. Announced on February 3, 2025, Battlefield Labs allows players to directly influence the development of upcoming Battlefield titles by testing pre-release game mechanics, features, and concepts.
The initiative marks a pivotal moment in Battlefield's development, prioritizing community input like never before. Players will be integral to the development process, providing invaluable feedback on new features and gameplay mechanics.
Initially, Battlefield Studios will invite a select group of players from European and North American servers to participate in the first phase of Battlefield Labs. While a specific release date remains unannounced, interested individuals can register their interest via [link].
Vince Zampella, Head of Respawn and Group GM for EA Studios Organization, emphasized the importance of this community collaboration: "This game has so much potential... Battlefield Labs empowers our teams [to realize that potential]." While participation is initially limited, Battlefield Studios assures the wider community will receive regular updates throughout the testing phase. Furthermore, plans are in place to extend this collaborative approach to future Battlefield installments.
The Battlefield Studios team comprises DICE (creators of the Battlefield franchise), Ripple Effect, Motive (developers of Star Wars Squadrons and Dead Space), and Criterion (renowned for racing games and contributions to various Battlefield titles).
Testing within Battlefield Labs will focus on key gameplay elements. The initial phase will concentrate on core combat and destruction, progressing to weapon, vehicle, and gadget balance and feedback. This will culminate in testing map design, game modes, and squad dynamics. The well-established Conquest and Breakthrough modes will be included, providing opportunities to refine existing gameplay.
Conquest, a large-scale mode centered around capturing control points, utilizes a ticket system where teams lose tickets upon respawns or enemy flag control. Breakthrough features attackers and defenders, with attackers gaining tickets by securing sectors and eliminating remaining enemies.
Refinement of the class system is also a key objective. While confident in the game's current state, Battlefield Studios recognizes the value of player feedback in achieving the optimal balance of form, function, and feel.
