Bloodborne Fans Celebrate 10th Anniversary with Return to Yharnam Event

Author : Lucy Jun 27,2025

Today marks the 10th anniversary of *Bloodborne*, and fans around the world are once again coming together to celebrate with a new "Return to Yharnam" community event. FromSoftware’s iconic PlayStation 4 title launched on March 24, 2015, and quickly became one of the most celebrated games of the generation. Praised for its deep gameplay, haunting atmosphere, and intricate world design, *Bloodborne* played a major role in establishing FromSoftware as one of the most innovative developers in gaming.

Despite its success and passionate fanbase, there has been no official sequel, remaster, or even a next-gen update to bring the game to a modern standard—including a smoother 60fps experience. Fans have long pleaded for more from the franchise, yet Sony’s silence on the matter remains one of the industry’s most enduring mysteries.

Earlier this year, former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida shared his personal theory on why *Bloodborne* has remained dormant. Speaking in an interview with Kinda Funny Games, Yoshida clarified that his comments were not based on insider knowledge but rather his own interpretation of the situation.

“Bloodborne has always been the most asked thing,” Yoshida said. “People wonder why we haven’t done anything—even just an update or a remaster. It should be easy, right? The company is known for doing so many remasters, so some people get frustrated.”

He continued, “I have only my personal theory about that. I left first-party, so I don’t know what’s going on now, but my theory is that Miyazaki-san really loved Bloodborne—what he created. So I think he is interested, but he’s so successful and busy. He doesn’t want anyone else to touch it. And the PlayStation team respects his wish. That’s just my guess.”

Hidetaka Miyazaki's Legacy and Busy Schedule

Hidetaka Miyazaki, the visionary director behind *Bloodborne* and president of FromSoftware, has gone on to lead several critically acclaimed and commercially successful titles. Following *Bloodborne*, Miyazaki directed *Dark Souls 3*, then *Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice*, and most recently the groundbreaking *Elden Ring*. His growing influence and packed schedule make any return to *Bloodborne* increasingly unlikely—at least under his direct supervision.

In past interviews, Miyazaki has often deflected questions about a potential follow-up, citing the fact that FromSoftware does not own the intellectual property. However, he did acknowledge last year that the game would benefit from being playable on more modern hardware.

Fan Efforts and Modding Challenges

In the absence of official support, modders have stepped in to enhance the original experience. Notably, Lance McDonald, a well-known modder, created a popular 60fps patch for *Bloodborne*. Unfortunately, Sony issued a DMCA takedown notice in January 2024, forcing him to remove the patch links. Similarly, Lilith Walther, creator of the *Bloodborne PSX* demake and *Nightmare Kart*, received a copyright claim on a previously posted video of the demake.

Despite these setbacks, progress continues. Thanks to breakthroughs in PS4 emulation via ShadPS4, tech experts at Digital Foundry confirmed that *Bloodborne* can now be played in full at 60fps on PC. Whether this advancement influenced Sony’s recent enforcement actions remains unclear, as the company has not publicly commented on the issue.

Community Keeps the Flame Alive

With no sign of official development, *Bloodborne* fans continue to keep the spirit of Yharnam alive through community-driven events. Today’s 10th-anniversary “Return to Yharnam” initiative encourages players to create new characters, summon random co-op partners, invade matches, and leave in-game messages to mark their participation.

For now, it seems this may be all that *Bloodborne* fans can hope for—a testament to the game’s lasting impact and the dedication of its loyal community.
